Top 4 Things Recruiters Look For On a Resume

Here are the top 4 things recruiters are looking for on your resume. Add them to your resume and land the job!

Relevancy

The resume should reflect the job applied for and/or the objective stated on the resume. For example, if you are a Structural Welder, it may not be in your best interest to submit your resume to an electrician job posting.

Length

Another thing recruiters look for on a resume is the length of your resume. Your resume should be no longer than 2-3 pages even if you have what’s called a “road warrior” type resume. We are looking to see your experience going back at least 7 years in full detail. You can list prior jobs by employer and date of employment.

Skill Summary

Hiring Managers will determine within the first 15-30 seconds of reading a resume if they will keep reading or discard your resume. A skill summary is an excellent snapshot of your skill set throughout your whole career. Skill summaries should show the number of years’ experience in a particular trade, new construction and/or repair experience, tools used, processes performed, machines operated, job-specific skills, and special certifications.

Details

Details…Details…Details… If I have not mentioned before, Details! An employment recruiters job is not only to get you submitted to a hiring manager but also to sell your skill set to the client. Details such as place of employment, dates of employment, job titles, tools used, software & certifications obtained are key on your resume.

These are the top 4 things most recruiters including myself look for on a resume and if they are included, you will have great success on your job search. Once you’ve landed the job, be sure to check out our blog entitled “5 Things to remember when starting a new job.”
